Project templates

Pre-built project structures that can be cloned into new projects as a starting point.

A project template is a pre-built project structure that can be cloned into a new project as a starting point. Templates capture node structure, dependencies, custom node types, and field configurations, but not the actual work content.

What templates contain

A template stores:

  • Node structure: the nodes and their relationships
  • Edges: dependencies between template nodes
  • Custom node types and their configurations
  • Custom fields at the project and node levels
  • Default views and saved views (see Saved views)

Templates do not store assignments, comments, time tracking data, or any user-specific state.

How templates are used

Users can:

  • Create a template from an existing project, capturing its current structure
  • Clone a template into a new project, which creates a copy with all template structure but no completed work
  • Share templates within a team workspace so the team starts new projects with consistent structure

Common template uses

Templates are most useful for:

  • Recurring project types (every feature launch follows the same structure)
  • Onboarding new team members with a template that shows how the team scopes work
  • Standardizing methodology across multiple parallel projects

Tier availability

Project templates are part of the core feature set, available on Free, Paid, and Team.
