Project duplication
Creating a copy of an existing project, with options for what to carry over.
Project duplication creates a copy of an existing project. The user can choose what to carry over from the source project, so duplication can be a full clone or a structure-only copy.
What can be carried over
When duplicating, the user can choose to include:
- Structure: nodes, edges, and the project's overall shape (always included)
- Custom node types and fields: the schema applied to the project
- Saved views and filters: configurations from the source
- Completed status: keep nodes marked complete, or reset everything to its initial state
- Comments and activity (Team only): the history of discussion and changes
- Time tracking data (Paid only): logged hours and reports
The default duplication creates a structural copy: all nodes and edges, but with completed status reset and history cleared. This is the most common use case.
Duplication vs templates
Duplication and project templates overlap but serve different purposes:
- Duplication is a one-off copy of a specific project, useful when you want this exact project's structure for a new instance
- Templates are reusable structures stored separately, useful when you want a consistent starting point for many projects
If you find yourself duplicating the same project repeatedly, that's a signal to make it a template instead.
Tier availability
Project duplication is part of the core feature set, available on Free, Paid, and Team.
