Keyboard shortcuts

Keyboard-driven commands for navigating and operating Tree without a mouse.

Keyboard shortcuts let users navigate Tree, create and edit nodes, and run common operations without a mouse. The shortcut set is consistent across views and discoverable through a command palette.

Categories of shortcuts

Tree's shortcuts cover:

  • Navigation: pan, zoom, focus a node, jump between projects
  • Node operations: create, edit, complete, delete, move
  • Edge operations: create, delete, redirect a dependency
  • View switching: graph, list, timeline (Paid), calendar (Paid)
  • Search and filter: open search, apply a saved filter, clear filters
  • Workspace actions: switch workspaces (Team), open settings, toggle theme

The full list is available via the command palette (cmd+K or ctrl+K), which also serves as a search-driven launcher for any action.

Customization

Most shortcuts are configurable. Users can:

  • Remap any shortcut to a different key combination
  • Disable shortcuts they don't use
  • Create custom shortcuts for frequently used filters, views, or actions

Customization is per-user, even in team workspaces. Each user can configure shortcuts to match their own preferences.

Why shortcuts matter

Tree's graph view is dense with interactive elements. A user navigating with the mouse alone can do everything, but keyboard shortcuts make the most common operations cheaper. Power users typically configure a small set of shortcuts for the operations they run dozens of times a day.

Tier availability

Keyboard shortcuts are part of the core feature set, available on Free, Paid, and Team.
